Rates and rules checked October 2026
The maximum weekly amount
The MRCA sets a maximum weekly permanent impairment payment, indexed every 1 July. At 1 July 2026 it's $447.39 a week. You get the full amount at 80 or more combined impairment points, whatever your lifestyle rating or type of service.
The maximum is paid from 80 points.
The maximum as a lump sum
If you convert the maximum weekly amount to a lump sum, the figure depends on your age, because younger veterans are compensated for more years:
| Age when converted | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | $604,245 | $604,245 |
| 40 | $546,711 | $572,301 |
| 50 | $474,099 | $504,522 |
| 60 | $386,366 | $419,786 |
| 70 | $284,674 | $316,573 |
Getting close to the maximum
Very few single conditions reach 80 points on their own. Veterans at or near the maximum usually have several accepted conditions combined, for example a serious psychiatric condition plus spinal and lower-limb conditions. Because ratings combine rather than add, each extra condition adds less than its face value.
Other things that open up at high ratings
- Gold Card: 60 or more impairment points under the MRCA gives you a Gold Card covering treatment for all conditions. More on the Gold Card.
- SRDP: with at least 50 points, if you can't work more than 10 hours a week, you may be eligible for the Special Rate Disability Pension. SRDP and TPI.
