DVA payouts by condition

What common conditions are rated at and what those ratings pay under the MRCA in 2026. Pick a condition, or use the calculator for your own combination.

Rates and rules checked October 2026

Why there's no "average" DVA payout

DVA doesn't publish average payouts by condition, and an average wouldn't tell you much anyway. Two veterans with the same diagnosis can be paid very different amounts because the payment depends on four things:

  • Impairment points: how much the condition affects your body or mind, assessed under GARP M 2026.
  • Lifestyle rating: from 0 to 7, how much your conditions affect daily life.
  • Type of service: warlike and non-warlike service pay more than peacetime service at the same rating, until they meet at 80 points.
  • Your age: if you take the payment as a lump sum, it's converted using a factor based on your age.

The weekly maximum is $447.39 at 1 July 2026, paid at 80 points or more. Everything below that is a fraction of the maximum taken from DVA's compensation tables.

Combined conditions

If you have more than one accepted condition, the ratings are combined rather than added. A 60-point condition plus a 30-point condition is 72, not 90, because the second condition is applied to the 40% that's left. See how impairment points work.

Some conditions don't get a rating each. All mental health conditions share one psychiatric rating, and hip, knee and ankle problems share one rating for both legs.
