About DVA Claims
An independent information service for Australian veterans and their families working through a DVA claim.
What this site is
DVA Claims explains how Department of Veterans' Affairs compensation works in plain English: how impairment is assessed, what payouts look like for common conditions, how long claims take and what to do when one is knocked back. The payout calculator gives an indicative estimate using DVA's published method and rates.
What this site is not
We are not the Department of Veterans' Affairs and we are not part of any government body. We can't lodge a claim for you, see your DVA file or tell you what DVA will decide. Only DVA can make a decision on your claim.
Who runs it
DVA Claims is operated by Westergaard Pty Ltd (ABN 22 663 084 900), an Australian company that runs health information and telehealth services.
How we keep it accurate
Figures on this site come from DVA's published rates, the legislation and DVA's own policy manuals. Rates change each year, so every page shows when it was last checked. If you spot something wrong, please let us know.
Free claim checks and referrals
If you use the free claim check, we may connect you with an independent advocate or legal practice that helps veterans with DVA claims, but only with your consent. They may pay us a fee for the referral, and they may charge you for their own services, so ask before you agree to anything. Free help is also available from ex-service organisation advocates, and we explain how to find one on our getting help page.
