What the calculator doesn't know

The severity options are a rough guide built from the GARP M tables. DVA's assessment of your actual impairment, the lifestyle questionnaire, any age adjustment, apportionment for conditions that aren't accepted, and payments you've already received under another Act can all move the final figure. If you've already been assessed, enter your points directly for a tighter estimate.

Common questions

How accurate is the DVA payout calculator?
It uses DVA's own method and tables: the GARP M 2026 Combined Values Chart and compensation factor tables, the MRCA maximum weekly amount and the age-based lump sum factors. The uncertain part is your impairment and lifestyle ratings, which only DVA's assessment decides, so the result is shown as a range.
What are impairment points?
A score from 0 to 100 for how much your accepted conditions affect your body or mind, assessed under GARP M 2026. Ratings for several conditions are combined, not added, and some conditions, like PTSD and depression, share one rating.
What is the lifestyle rating?
A score from 0 to 7 for how much your conditions affect your relationships, mobility, recreation and work or domestic life. It's usually broadly in line with your impairment rating.
Should I take a lump sum or weekly payments?
It depends on your situation, and it's a decision worth getting independent financial advice on. The lump sum is the weekly amount multiplied by a factor based on your age.
Does this calculator cover VEA and DRCA claims?
No. From 1 July 2026 all new claims are decided under the MRCA, so the calculator models the MRCA only. Claims lodged before then under the VEA or DRCA are calculated differently.
